The following are some reasons why perfumes can become unavailable:

  1. Each year, the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) issues ever-stricter safety and allergen regulations. This affects quite a few classic formulas as well as niche compositions, and sometimes brands have to discontinue a perfume if they are unable to reformulate.
  2. The brand decides to change the concentration. For example, an eau de parfum is reformulated as an extrait, effectively turning it into a different perfume.
  3. The brand ceases operating. The creative director passed away, got bored, started a new project, sold the business, etc.
  4. The brand cannot keep up with logistics and production demands, with disruptions for up to a year. If there is no regular production and availability schedule, it is not viable for a stockist to carry the brand.
  5. The brand changed the distribution model, eg from niche to duty free.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

This is the scent of a slow morning that never quite becomes a productive one: a quiet apartment, sunlight on a chair, a book left open, and the sense that staying still is the better choice. It projects calm confidence, with enough warmth and softness to feel close and personal rather than loud.

How to wear

Best in cool to mild weather, where its cardamom, lavender and creamy woods can bloom without feeling heavy. Apply lightly to pulse points or clothing for a soft, intimate trail; the milk accord and sandalwood stay close to the skin, while the spices and cedar give gentle diffusion in the air.

Who it’s for

For those who like aromatic woods with a creamy, skin-close texture rather than sharp freshness or heavy sweetness. It suits minimal, modern tastes, especially if you enjoy lavender, cardamom, sandalwood and musky-woody scents with a clean but sensual feel.

The nose

Caroline Dumur is a perfumer at IFF known for polished, modern compositions that balance clarity with texture. Her style often leans into tactile contrasts: airy aromatics, smooth woods, musks and creamy effects that feel contemporary rather than ornate. For Demain Promis, Dumur shapes a minimalist structure into something enveloping and comforting, using lavender, cardamom and milk to create a soft, almost ritual-like warmth. The result fits her talent for making restrained formulas feel intimate, addictive and easy to wear.

Collaborators

Sophie Maisant, Bastille’s founder, shaped the house’s brief around transparency, sustainability and genderless luxury, giving the perfumer a framework that blends natural materials with a modern, clean formula. Caroline Dumur translated that concept into the fragrance itself, keeping the composition restrained and tactile rather than ornate.

Bastille’s story

Bastille builds its identity around olfactory freedom, transparency and sustainability, with a focus on vegan, cruelty-free formulas made in France. The house aims to reconcile haute-perfumery craftsmanship with a cleaner, more modern approach, using traceable ingredients and genderless compositions that feel personal rather than prescribed.

Demain Promis (Tomorrow

Demain Promis was created as part of Bastille’s launch collection, reflecting the brand’s idea of modern natural luxury. The fragrance plays on the fantasy of good intentions postponed until tomorrow: a morning of meditation, a closed laptop, and the comfort of staying with the present instead. Its milky, spiced character was conceived to feel both reassuring and slightly indulgent.

Extra info

Demain Promis means “Tomorrow, I promise,” a name that captures the fragrance’s theme of postponed resolutions. The formula is notably minimalist, with a short ingredient list compared with classic perfumery structures. It is part of Bastille’s core collection and is built around a high proportion of natural ingredients.
