The following are some reasons why perfumes can become unavailable:

  1. Each year, the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) issues ever-stricter safety and allergen regulations. This affects quite a few classic formulas as well as niche compositions, and sometimes brands have to discontinue a perfume if they are unable to reformulate.
  2. The brand decides to change the concentration. For example, an eau de parfum is reformulated as an extrait, effectively turning it into a different perfume.
  3. The brand ceases operating. The creative director passed away, got bored, started a new project, sold the business, etc.
  4. The brand cannot keep up with logistics and production demands, with disruptions for up to a year. If there is no regular production and availability schedule, it is not viable for a stockist to carry the brand.
  5. The brand changed the distribution model, eg from niche to duty free.

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

This is a fragrance for close quarters and self-possessed movement: a woman crossing a room, not rushing, with a polished sweetness that lingers in her wake. It suits moments when you want floral softness to feel sharpened by confidence and a little mystery.

How to wear

Best worn in cooler weather or in air-conditioned spaces, where its powdery floral heart and chypre base can unfold without feeling heavy. One or two sprays are enough for a refined trail; on skin it stays smooth and intimate, while in the air it leaves a more seductive, lingering edge.

Who it’s for

For those who like floral fragrances with structure, powder, and a sensual undercurrent rather than sheer prettiness. It will appeal to wearers drawn to romantic chypres, plum-rose florals, and perfumes that feel elegant, feminine and slightly mysterious.

Release year

2012

The nose

Dorothée Piot is a French perfumer associated with Robertet, known for composing fragrances with a polished, textured elegance and a strong sense of balance. Her work often moves between luminous florals, soft powdery effects and modern chypre structure, which suits Stilettos on Lex’s sensual but refined profile. At Jul et Mad, Piot helped define the house’s opening chapter with a fragrance that blends fruit, floral softness and a darker, more tailored base. The result is a perfume that feels both romantic and composed, with the kind of controlled richness that has become a hallmark of her style.

Collaborators

Mădălina Stoica-Blanchard and Julien Blanchard shaped the creative brief from their own New York-inspired love story, using personal memories and imagery to guide the perfume’s emotional direction. The founders then tested multiple perfumers’ interpretations and chose Dorothée Piot’s version for best capturing the intended mood.

Jul Et Mad’s story

Jul et Mad Paris builds its identity around a personal love story and a strict “parfum sans compromis” ethos. The house favors high perfume concentrations, rare materials, and close collaboration with perfumers, presenting its scents as intimate, jewel-like compositions rather than trend-driven releases.

Stilettos on Lex’s concept

Stilettos on Lex was conceived as the first Jul et Mad perfume and the opening chapter of the brand’s Histoire d’Amour collection. Inspired by Mădălina Stoica-Blanchard’s New York years and the image of a woman in high heels on Lexington Avenue, it was selected through blind testing for its ability to translate that memory into a modern floral chypre.

Extra info

Stilettos on Lex was the first fragrance in Jul et Mad’s Histoire d’Amour story and became one of the house’s best-known scents. The name points to Lexington Avenue, and the perfume is presented in extrait concentration, underscoring the brand’s preference for richness and longevity.
