The following are some reasons why perfumes can become unavailable:

  1. Each year, the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) issues ever-stricter safety and allergen regulations. This affects quite a few classic formulas as well as niche compositions, and sometimes brands have to discontinue a perfume if they are unable to reformulate.
  2. The brand decides to change the concentration. For example, an eau de parfum is reformulated as an extrait, effectively turning it into a different perfume.
  3. The brand ceases operating. The creative director passed away, got bored, started a new project, sold the business, etc.
  4. The brand cannot keep up with logistics and production demands, with disruptions for up to a year. If there is no regular production and availability schedule, it is not viable for a stockist to carry the brand.
  5. The brand changed the distribution model, eg from niche to duty free.

Villa Primerose - Atelier des Ors - Bloom Perfumery

A TRIBUTE TO ELEGANCE AS AN ART OF LIVING & THE ORIGINS OF PERFUMERY.

"I made this crazy promise to look after you and to make sure that you experience moments of sharing, emotion and creation. You are now at the heart of our quest for aesthetics and uncompromised approach. A place to live, to experience but also a place of culture, you have had the privileged to witness the rise of Grasse perfumery since 1886. You are between past, present and future.

Your eponymous fragrance, Villa Primerose, contrasts power with softness and homage with modernity. It has the elegance of the magnificent gesture of a leather glove being slipped on.

This fragrance, like the elegant women you received and ushered in for over a century, enveloping them in the charm of convention and savoir vivre, celebrates the art of living that is now reborn within your walls.»

All about this fragrance

Vibe check

This scent suits a composed, intimate setting where presence matters more than volume: close conversation, tailored clothes, and a room that rewards detail. It reads as polished rather than loud, with the rose and leather creating the impression of a well-kept glove, warm skin, and quiet confidence.

How to wear

Best in mild to cool weather, Villa Primerose wears beautifully when applied with restraint, especially as an extrait. One to three sprays are enough to let the rose, spice, and leather unfold with a smooth, elegant trail; in warmer air it stays more intimate, while in cooler conditions the leather and woods gain depth.

Who it’s for

For those who like floral fragrances with structure: rose with edge, softness with polish, and a tactile leather finish. It will appeal to wearers who enjoy refined, slightly spicy compositions that feel elegant, modern, and quietly distinctive rather than overtly sweet or airy.

2023-2024

The nose

Marie Salamagne is a principal perfumer at dsm-Firmenich known for composing fragrances with clear contrasts, refined textures, and a strong sense of materiality. Her work often moves between softness and structure, which suits Villa Primerose: here she frames rose not as a simple floral note, but as a polished, luminous accord set against leather, spice, and woods. In this fragrance, Salamagne draws on one of Grasse perfumery’s most evocative pairings, rose and leather, and turns it into something modern and wearable. The result reflects her skill for giving classical ideas a contemporary contour without losing depth or elegance.

Collaborators

Jean-Philippe Clermont, the brand founder, is closely tied to the fragrance’s concept and long-term creative direction; his role was to shape the house’s artistic vision around French haute parfumerie, gold, and emotional storytelling. The scent was developed in close collaboration with Marie Salamagne, who translated that brief into a rose-leather composition rooted in Grasse heritage.

Atelier des Ors’s story

Atelier des Ors treats perfume as crafted art: a blend of French haute parfumerie, visual beauty, and emotional narrative. The house is defined by gilded details, jewel-like bottles, and compositions that connect heritage with a contemporary sense of luxury, often drawing inspiration from art, travel, and the culture of savoir-faire.

Villa Primerose’s concept

Villa Primerose is a tribute to the brand’s move to its namesake villa in Grasse, a house linked to the origins of perfumery since 1886. The fragrance revisits the classic Grasse rose-and-leather motif, evoking the ritual of scented gloves and the elegance of old-world French refinement, while adding a modern, luminous finish.

Extra info

Villa Primerose is named after the villa in Grasse that became central to Atelier des Ors’ recent story. The house is known for its signature use of 24-carat gold leaves in the fragrance nectar, and this release continues that gilded, craftsmanship-led identity.
